I have a special interest in women’s wellness including physical health concerns affecting women, voluntary and involuntary childlessness, pregnancy and birth as well as perinatal and postnatal psychological health.

Even if your problems and concerns are unrelated to any of the above often talking things through is the first step to overcoming them. Let me help you make sense of what you are finding difficult. Together we can discover what is making the problem worse and what stops it from getting better, we will then discover what we can do overcome the problem and reach your goals.

Please contact me for a free confidential 30 minute telephone consultation. If for some reason I do not think I will be able to meet your needs, I am happy to suggest recommendations or signpost you to a different service.

Are sessions confidential?

Yes. I take confidentiality extremely seriously and I am bound by a code of ethics outlined by my accreditation body (BABCP). I hold enhanced DBS. I have also registered with the Information Commissioner's Office, in order to maintain the confidentiality of your data. During therapy sessions, I keep everything you tell me in session strictly between us. The only way I might have to break this agreement between us is if I am at reason to believe you are at risk of harming yourself, harming others or others are going to harm you. This might include any historical safety issues that are disclosed. This duty of care I have to keep you and others safe may mean that other parties may be informed.

If your insurance company funds for your CBT, counselling or EMDR therapy, I may need to share some information with your insurer about your treatment.
What happens in the first assessment ?

The first session is usually an assessment which can take 1-2 sessions. The purpose of an assessment is to understand together what the main problems are, what you would like to work on in therapy, what your goals for therapy are and what treatment approach might be best suited to your needs whether it by CBT, Counselling or EMDR.
What happens in a treatment session?

Most treatment sessions last 50-60 minutes, although some treatment sessions may need to be 90 minutes (this will be negotiated with you beforehand). Depending on the type of therapy approach will depend on how the session is structured. For example, CBT is a practical therapy focusing on your concerns in the here and now so is usually more structured than a counselling approach. In a CBT treatment session we would tend to set an agenda together at the start of treatment. Then we would review at the homework work set from last week, you may learn a new skill or coping strategy for anxiety or depression in the session and then a new homework task will be set so you can practice this skill outside of session.

How many sessions will I need? And how long do they last?

CBT, Counselling or EMDR sessions can be as time-limited or as open ended as you need. I can offer both short-term and long term work. For example, 6-20 sessions of CBT is recommended but you can have as many or as little as you feel you need. You are in full control of your therapy.  Sessions typically last 50-60 minutes, although some treatment sessions may last 90 minutes.
How much does it cost?

Find out more about our pricing here.
How do I pay?

Payment via cash, card or cheque is required on the day of the session.
Does therapy work?

There is  never an absolute guarantee on anything but I can say with confidence that outcomes from therapy are good based on experience of offering therapy for 12 years in different health services.  The outcomes in therapy can depend on a number of factors. Usually if a person is motivated/ ready for therapy, is regularly practicing  skills outside of session (if they are having CBT) and if there is a trusting therapeutic relationship that has been built between client and therapist.
Where are you based?

I am based in Chelmsford , close to the town centre and on bus routes. There is off road parking available. I am conveniently located for other towns in Essex including Witham and Maldon.  Find out more about our location here.
What are your opening hours? What days do you work?

I offer therapy during the week and also in the evening. Please contact me or send me a message here for my availability. I will endeavour to be as flexible as possible.
